Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu tasked with implementing and operating the metro rail system in Chennai. CMRL is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals for senior leadership roles on a contract or deputation basis. These key positions play a crucial role in managing the signal and telecommunications systems as well as operations and maintenance of the metro network.

Application Fees
- General and Other Categories: ₹300 (non-refundable).
- SC/ST Candidates: ₹50 (non-refundable).

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualifications
- Chief General Manager / General Manager (Signal & Telecom):
Must have a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree from a recognized institute approved by AICTE or UGC. - General Manager (Operations & Maintenance):
Must have a B.E./B.Tech degree or any graduate degree from a recognized institute approved by AICTE or UGC.
Experience Requirements
- Chief General Manager (Signal & Telecom):
- Officer from Organized Group A IRSSE cadre in Railways or equivalent in Metro.
- Minimum 25 years post-qualification experience in Signal & Telecom systems in Railways or Metro.
- At least 5 years in Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) or equivalent.
- General Manager (Signal & Telecom):
- Officer from Organized Group A IRSSE cadre or equivalent in Metro.
- SAG or Non-Functional SAG grade.
- Minimum 20 years post-qualification experience in Signal & Telecom systems.
- General Manager (Operations & Maintenance):
- Officer from Organized Group A Technical service (such as IRTS) in Railways or equivalent Metro service or related field experience.
- SAG or Non-Functional SAG grade.
- Minimum 20 years post-qualification experience in Operations & Maintenance.
Age Limits
- Chief General Manager: Maximum 55 years.
- General Manager (Signal & Telecom): Between 45 and 55 years.
- General Manager (Operations & Maintenance): Maximum 55 years.
Age Relaxations
- Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes: 5 years.
- Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities / Backward Classes (Muslim & non-Muslim): 2 years.
- Differently Abled persons: 10 years.
- Ex-Servicemen: Length of service plus 3 years.
Salary Structure and Benefits
Contract Appointment
- Chief General Manager (Signal & Telecom): ₹2,70,000 per month (consolidated).
- General Manager (Signal & Telecom): ₹2,25,000 per month (consolidated).
- Contract employees may be considered for IDA pay scale after 2 years based on performance and organizational requirements.
Deputation Appointment
Deputationists can choose:
- Pay drawn in parent organization plus deputation allowance (10%) and project allowance (10%), or
- Equivalent CMRL IDA pay scale with IDA, House Rent Allowance (HRA), and cafeteria allowance (20%).

Tenure of Appointment
- Deputation: Initially 3 years, extendable to 5 years.
- Contract: Initially 2 years, extendable depending on performance and requirement.
Selection Process
- Interview: Candidates will be evaluated on knowledge, skills, leadership ability, attitude, aptitude, and overall suitability.
- Medical Examination: CMRL will cover the cost of the first medical exam. Candidates bear the cost of any subsequent exams if joining is delayed. Candidates must pass the medical exam to qualify for appointment.

- Appointment is subject to satisfactory verification of character and antecedents.
- Higher pay and higher posts may be considered based on experience, qualifications, and performance.
